Number of victims to unknown virus growing! State of emergency to be imposed in Ukraine?

MIGnews.com.ua
Yesterday, on October 29 some media reported that allegedly in the Ternopil Region cases of ill people with typhus were registered, and that militarized detachments limited entrance and departure from the territory of the Ternopil Region. However, the Public Relations Center of the Ministry of Emergencies in the Ternopil Region denied information about it.

Yesterday, on October 29 the chief physician of the regional sanitary-epidemiological station Halyna Hrynchuk assured that Kyiv Region is ready for prophylaxis and treatment of influenza, reported Yulia Makoveeva, MIGnews.com.ua correspondent.

In the Ternopil Region 25 percents of infectiologists who worked with patients with acute respiratory viral infections are ill, the chairman of the Association of infectiologists of Ukraine Mykhaylo Andreychin reported yesterday, on October 29 at a press conference.

"One fourth of doctors had such a disease or they are ill with it now. Fortunately, they are recovering now and soon again be able to work", - said Mykhaylo Andreychin.

Yesterday, on October 29 in Morshyn, Lviv Region a doctor from a local hospital, who contacted with patients with viral infection and visited them, died, is reported by the Deputy Chief of the Health protection department in the Lviv Region Iryna Mykytchak. According to her, a 56-year-old woman "had been previously diagnosed with pneumonia," UNIAN reports.

The medical facilities in the Lviv region have medicines for treatment of influenza and acute respiratory infections for the three-day supply, is said in the summary of information of the General Directorate of Health Protection in the Lviv Regional at the State regional Administration, UNIAN reported.

Because of the mass acute respiratory infections residents of the Lviv Region began to buy up antiviral drugs and flu masks. Yesterday, on October 29 the Lviv residents could not purchase masks. Consequently, the director general of the Lviv regional pharmaceutical corporation Nelia Byk appealed to all residents of the region with the request not to buy drugs without the need, Glavred cites the Ministry’s report as saying.

Ministry of Health recommends using the methods of traditional and alternative medicine for prevention of acute respiratory viral diseases, including influenza, Ukrainian News cites the report of the Ministry as saying.

According to experts of Ministry of Health, filling nutrition, conditioning to the cold and frequent airing of premises are effective during the period of active disease. Also, the Ministry recommends using general health-improving and tonic immunomodulatory drugs. In addition, the Ministry recommends frequent hand washing and cover a nose and mouth with a handkerchief when coughing and sneezing.

The number of people suffering from unknown virus in Ukraine is growing. According to the latest data of Ministry of Health, 30 deaths of flu and acute respiratory viral diseases have been recorded, starting from October, 19, in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions. In particular, from October, 19 and until 04:00 p.m. on October 29 6 deaths have been recorded in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region, 12 - in the Lviv Region (including 1 child) and 12 - in the Ternopil Region. As of 04:00 p.m. on October 29 the number of people sick with influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in these regions has reached 37, 923 people, 951 out of them have been hospitalized.

11:04 a.m. The information has been received that 3 people died from complicated pneumonia for the last 3 days in Chernivtsi. In total, during the last day the number of people sick with acute respiratory vital infections in Chernivtsi increased from 2,623 to 4,053 people. Only in 8 cases influenza was diagnosed.

According to the doctors, now in Chernivtsi unidentified viral infection is being observed. The first results of virological studies that will identify the virus, will be ready only in two weeks.

Also, three people died in the Rivne Region, and one person- in Transcarpathia.

In total, according to unconfirmed reports, 37 people died.

In connection with this anti-epidemic measures are introduced at the Lviv railway.

A spokesman for the chairman of the Lviv regional state administration Olha Kulyk also reported that "Lviv airport and Lviv Customs are under control”.

The Ternopil Regional Council decided to hold an extraordinary session on October 30. MPs will start the meeting at 02:00 p.m. today.

The emergency antiepidemic and antiepizootic Committee will be gathered today in the Cabinet of Ministers, declared First Deputy Prime Minister Olexander Turchynov in the air of 5 Kanal.

In addition, commenting on the growth of drug prices, he appealed to owners of pharmacies: "Stop be a parasite on the problems of citizens and do not play with the prices because we will have to answer for it. We are not joking, and we will act fairly tightly."

Olexander Turchynov also said that the leadership of the Ternopil Regional Health Protection Department "waited for a few weeks, did not informed the center and only after they had realized they would not cope with the situation, attended the press conference, instead of immediately informing Kyiv”.

Poland is keeping an eye on the situation with a possible virus epidemic in Ukraine. But while the State Sanitary Inspectorate of the country (GIS) does not see reasons to limit or close traffic on the common border. According to the GIS, the inspection has instructed its offices in Rzeszow and Lublin strengthen sanitary control at checkpoints on the common border, as well as monitor the current situation. In addition, the service should inform travelers about the possible threat of the epidemic and prevent the need to immediately contact a doctor in case of symptoms appearing.

GIS representative noted that from October 31 to November 3 the number of Poles crossing the Polish-Ukrainian border, will increase because many people will visit the cemeteries in Ukraine.

Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health Lilia Hrihorovich (Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense faction) is convinced of the necessity to declare the state of emergency in five regions of Ukraine.

MP of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions faction, deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health Viktor Korzh says that the Ministry of Health is not ready to struggle against flu and acute respiratory viral infections epidemic.

Director of the Ukrainian Center for influenza and respiratory infections, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Olexander Hrynevich is convinced that Ukraine needs a massive vaccination against influenza in connection with a high incidence of acute respiratory infections. By reports of Interfax-Ukraine, UNIAN, Ukrainian News, Ukrainskaya pravda

As a reminder, October 28 flu epidemic in the Ternopil Region, which had appeared a week ago, mowed down nearly 10,000 of residents. Moreover - unknown virus has already killed seven people. Ministry of Health has confirmed 20 deaths from pneumonia in Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions.

A closed meeting has been held in Ivano-Frankivsk, at which participants agreed that epidemic of the so-called "pneumonic plague" is being spread throughout Ukraine. But the problem is its form is unknown, it is ATYPICAL nobody knows how to treat it.

Do you think there is a possibility that all of these hype is maked because the want give us something to do.

Supose that in some weeks or moths al Banks closed RE- programming their computers and introducing world wide a new monetairy system while we are sitting home doing nothing we can do nothing because we are sick at home and in bed.

Than there is no fighting on the streets and after a while the WHO and all governments are in one world monetairy system.

We certainly can do without the pathetic troll type big pharma spin doctoring of the type Spindok uses below. Yes someone supposedly from the Ukraine calls themself Spindok and advocates the vaccine. Pure spin that casts doubt on the claims of the Ukraine president as being truthful. NWO puppet.

SPINDOK writes:
Not a current poster or follower. There may be another thread on this topic. I dont want to get into controversy.

This is a true pandemic which is being under reported here.

A very serious influnza virus this H1N1. I am very concerned that even those who have vaccine available are not being immunized. Those with symptoms are not seeking treatment as expected. There is a lot of fear even among those who work in the medical community.

My own family is infected. I was able to get a dose of vaccine on Monday. The next day my son came home from college with a case tested positive by the screening test. Today he is close to recovered after high fevers, vomiting, dehydration, and close to the point where I thought he needed to come to the hospital. I put my wife on Tamiflu because she could not get the vaccine which seems to be working. Minor symptoms and the Tamiflu seems to have warded it off.

I am on call this weekend with a scratchy throat so far. Started on Tamiflu and will not engage in patient contact tomorrow.

I do not know the situation in UK or elsewhere now as I have been too busy to look it up in detail. I think there is lack of data and maybe some intentional lack of reporting everywhere.

My advice is to keep all precautions you can. The principles of infectious disease are not that complicated. Assume you are exposed and carry virus.

Hygenic measures such as hand washing, avoiding direct contact, and keeping yourself to minimum close contact with others .

I encourage everyone to get vaccine if you can. If you are caring for someone with flu symptoms consider Tamiflu as a preventive ( adults 75 mg pill once a day for 10 days, or twice a day for 5 days if you have symptoms).

Take care of those with symptoms and do not take it lightly. Children are at most risk of serious complications or death. Do not assume this is just a seasonal cold. Treat high fever aggresively.

Where I am the medical community is in partial denial as they start sniffling and wonder how many sick days they have this year. Seek medical attention but take care of your own.

Wishing all health and healing,

"wishing all health and healing" with vaccines and tamiflu you have got to be spin doctoring. The sheer audacity of calling youself Spindok, unbelievable.

Right, this Spindok is not really up to date or credible or both. If he only would follow up on his friends from the WHO, he would find out to better stick to Relenza. Tamiflu is useless with A(H1N1) officially:

It does look there is some kind of pneumonic plague here, but officials say "dont spread the rumors, its only a swine flu"
I imagine what panic would have emerged if they said "its a pneumonic plague, guys"
Doctors already said such pneumonia that kills people in 3 days is not a flu complication, its something they had never seen before
So far, nobody is talking emergency declaration
Although government already ordered quarantines, prohibited mass gatherings (so if u want to protest smth - u cant), and restricted travelling "without special need" between the regions to curb the spread of virus, which, i must say, sort of makes sense, cause once the epidemic was declared in Ternopil region people stormed railway station to get out of there to other regions.
The World HARM Organization representatives come on Monday.
About face masks and antiviral drugs - theyre absent in pharmacies even here, near Kiev, since yesterday morning.
Government announced the supply of masks to all regions one of its first priorities.
ARE YOU READY? 2009-10-31 12:07:05

Do you remember the 350 Polish homeless which recieved Vaccination for swine flu. 21 Of them died
Do you think the ones who didnt die could now be carriers of it and passed it on to them and now they might have put out a new virus strain on top of it?? Just a thought
They havent stopped chemtrailing not one day goes by without it.

Ukraine's Swine Flu Death Toll Rises To 34

Deutsche Presse-Agentur,
via Monsters & Critics.com,
Oct 31, 2009, 7:50 GMT

Kiev - The death toll from a swine flu outbreak in Ukraine rose to 34 on Saturday, as the government announced new measures to control the spread of the virus.

Two of the victims were infants, Health Minister Vasyl Kniazevych told Channel 5 television.

As of Saturday morning, the flu was thought still to be limited in to the country's western provinces, but because of the number of suspected cases, a spread was likely, he said.

'The country must prepare for a wider outbreak,' Kniazevych said. 'Its direction of movement is towards central Ukraine.'

More than 80,000 people in the swine flu outbreak area were registered with authorities as displaying possible flu symptoms, but because of the similarity of swine flu symptoms to those of common flu, health workers were struggling to estimate the extent of the swine flu's spread, Kniazevych said.

'We had a problem with identifying the (swine flu) antibody in flu sufferers,' he said. 'There is a mass of work we have to do.'

Panic purchasing of flu remedies, surgical masks, and even citrus fruits took place in most major cities in the former Soviet republic, 1+1 television reported.

The swine flu deaths thus far have been limited to the nine western provinces, most along the borders with Slovakia, Poland, and Romania.

Shortages of over-the-counter medicines used to treat the common flu were reported as far away as the eastern city Zaporizhia, some 900 kilometres from the epicentre of the outbreak.

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting with regional health officials Saturday, to discuss new disease control measures.

Invoking a rarely-used law allowing the state to take temporary control of private property, Tymoshenko declared all health-related organizations in the country, including privately-owned health clinics and hospitals, to be 'directly subordinate' to the government, effective immediately.

The government would pay particular attention to medical supply retailers, to head off artificial goods shortages and price gouging, she said, in comments reported by the Unian news agency.

Retail price spikes of as much as 300 per cent for cold and flu remedies have taken place in recent years in Ukraine, during avian flu outbreaks.

Tymoshenko claimed privately-operated chemists in the country were 'absolutely supplied in full volume with all necessary medical supplies,' contradicting spot reports of shortages.

Trains operated by the national railroad Ukrzhelesnitsiya were running according to schedule, but staff were ordered to wear surgical masks, and instructed to report passengers who appear to have flu symptoms.

Medical personnel aboard 'every passenger train' were available to provide first aid to potential flu sufferers, and would report people treated to the Health Ministry, according to statement on the Ukrzhelesnitsiya website.

Traffic in Ukrainian airports and intercity highways meanwhile appeared to be at normal levels despite a call by Tymoshenko for Ukrainians to avoid long-distance travel if possible.

Traffic police and airport security personnel have been briefed to screen travellers visually, Tymoshenko said.

All schools, kindergartens, and universities were closed for a three-week period on Friday. A ban on massed gatherings - forcing the wholesale cancellation of concerts and political rallies - was also in effect.

Ukraine's national security council on Friday approved the equivalent of 55 million dollars in emergency funding, for swine flu control.

President Viktor Yushchenko on Friday put the number of deaths from swine flu at 11 and said the country was 'in serious need' of foreign assistance.

Ukraine - President's statement on the situation

Ukraine - President's statement on the situation with spread of A(H1N1) flu

30.10.2009 15:30
Press office of President Victor Yushchenko

Obviously we are facing a difficult situation and today the effective assessment, accurate information on the sickness rate in not only the three regions but in the whole of Ukraine is an important issue. I have instructed the Minister for Health to develop a unified database, to prepare the official statistics, which would in real time inform primarily the Ministry of Health, the Prime Minister and the Government on the situation with the epidemics in all regions of Ukraine. Unfortunately there was no such database before today. We need to conduct the cumulative, effective monitoring. We have the Flue Center, which employs only one person. And my request of May to the Prime Minister to allocate funds to establish a lab, to "arm" us in the situation, when the world is smitten by the epidemic of this flue, to date has not been answered. That is why only one person is working in the Flu Center. This is the center, which is supposed to conduct monitoring in whole of Ukraine, the center, which operates under the auspices of the Ministry for Health and of the Government. I have addressed the Prime Minister with the request to urgently allocate appropriate funds - 50 million hryvnyas for the center to function.

So, the first question is the fullness of the information and establishment of full control over spreading of respiratory desists over the territory of Ukraine, the regime of real informing of the public per region and the country as the whole.

Separately I have instructed Regional Administrations to established info-centers for the population of every region to avoid panic or disinformation.

Question number two, which I think is the result of failures in the question number one, particularly the failure to establish the Flue Center, is determining the type of the virus. Today only one thing pulls the Health Ministry and effective system of actions back – determining the type of the virus. In many cases this question remains unanswered. There are even experts, who suppose it is another modified virus - the differentiated virus between the "bird flu" and the "pig flu". But only the operative analysis would answer that. The flu, which the risk group is suffering from, should be identified.

Yesterday I have instructed the Ministry of Health to formulate and present to the meeting of the Government a real action plan, which the entire government team, all local authorities and local government are to be guided by. That means the Ministry should review the national pandemic plan and, taking into account current challenges, to bind it to specific territories and Ukraine in general. The Health Ministry should clearly formulate mandatory recommendations that should guide the citizens of Ukraine, specialists and experts.

Further – be it premises restrictions, or the introduction of quarantine restrictions, or preventive measures, or vaccination, or isolation - it should be a part of a single national Ukrainian plan, which I hope I will hear at today's extraordinary session of the NSDC dedicated to the issue. The plan should include a set of quarantine measures and I will get an expert opinion on the measures already undertaken by the Government. Whether they are sufficient, or whether the process should be developed and extended. The measures we are to apply at the border, the procedure of citizens’ and transport movement between the areas. The supervision over full provision of the population with remedies. And if something is missing, buying and allocating it to the appropriate health care facilities. Providing medical departments with the number of beds necessary in case of the worst possible scenarios. I have instructed the Minister of Defense to mobilize all operational mobile hospitals so they could be deployed tomorrow in the areas, where they are needed the most.

The supply of medicines that we currently have allows us to provide help to all those in need. I have addressed international institutions and partner countries so if the situation develops in such a manner and with such dynamics that it would threaten our capabilities, we will certainly get the required amount of drugs needed for treatment and prevention. At present the required number of medicines has been distributed to the affected people - this is the latest report of the Health Minister.

I would like to separately address you, dear journalists, because objective and responsible information, I think, helps the country and specialists to deal with this problem. So I ask you to refrain from agitating the country with unverified information and from using the information of dubious nature and the information that is untrue. More than ever before we now must be Ukrainians, help the nation with full responsibility to meet this problem, have a single national plan, support each other. I am sure we will be able to deal with this disaster. Obviously, in the next couple of days we will have the assessment of the issues that arose - why they turned out to be so acute like in no other country of the European community.

Ukraine Flying Pigs?
Freeone 2009-10-31 13:09:55

Could this epidemic be caused by a new type of Ukraine flying pigs? Maybe it is birds again since calling H1N1 "swine flu" does not have a good sound to it. I guess the all knowing and all caring WHO will determine this. With their loving concern for humanity they are going out of their way to care for everyone by making sure that elsewhere in the world people get a shot instead of a bag of rice. Margeret Chan of WHO will probably be the next Peace Price recipient.

California flu
Shanna 2009-11-01 04:19:46

Yah, it is confusing. The mock-up vaccine during development is based on vietnam H5N1 2004 (bird flu). The final virus when they switch into production (now happening) is California 2009 H1N1 - this is from the outbreak that was reported in California at the end of the Mexican outbreak of flu and acute respiratory syndrome (the latter has the symptoms of bird flu).

My strong feeling is that the unknown virus in the Ukraine is H5N1/A (avian flu) introduced by mock-up vaccines and/or something earlier than that from the Baxter distrubition of bird flu.

In fact, that is what the story above suggests it is suspected to be.

But I thought bird flu had never been found to transmit from human to human?
Rob 2009-10-31 14:25:26

You will not have heard of A/N1N1-kaliforniya before....because it has been bioengineered in a lab.....just like H1N1 and Aids.

Swine flu fear grips Ukraine as death toll dramatically rises

DigitalJournal.com,
1 Nov, 2009

Ukraine residents have begun panic-buying face masks and influenza medicines as the death toll from the country's swine flu epidemic rises dramatically in 24 hours.
The President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, announced to the country today that the death toll from the H1N1 virus has risen to 50, a dramatic rise from his announcement twenty-hours previously when he'd announced that the toll was 11.
The swine flu epidemic appears to be spreading rapidly in Ukraine with latest figures suggesting that 150,000 people are ill with the virus.
As a preventative measure, for the next three weeks all playgroups, schools and universities will remain closed and the government has also banned mass gatherings as a precaution.
The government, looking at setting up anti-swine flu measures, have announced a package worth 40 millions Euros.
Since the bird flu epidemic a few years ago the price of of flu medications in Ukraine has risen as much as 300 per cent.
As an indication of the worry and fear the Ukrainian people are feeling one lady who was queuing for flu medications gave this account, “What can I say? There is no medicine in the chemists. How come nobody prepared for this epidemic? Children are sick. The elderly are sick. There are no masks, not even basic pills. People are queuing and waiting for supplies to come, but nobody knows if they will come or not.”

Situation with Influenza, flu remains favourable in Donetsk region

Donetsk City Guide,
1 November 2009

A favorable situation with influenza sickness remains in Donetsk region. It was reported by Donetsk regional sanitary-epidemiological department.
According to the weekly monitoring, the incidence recorded in the usual off-season level in the whole of the area is below the dangerous level at 51.3%, the incidence of respiratory infections did not exceed the limit in urban areas.
At the same time the report notes that Influenza A (H1N1)virus continued to deteriorate in the world. In particular, according to the latest WHO information as by October, 26 there were 417.8 thousand laboratory-confirmed cases, of which 5.4 thousand persons died in the world.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, influenza situation in Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv (all of them are far away from Donetsk region) regions remains unfavorable. It registered more than 37,9 thousand cases, 30 of them are fatal. Ukraine's swine flu death toll rises to nearly 50 (Roundup)

Deutsche Presse-Agentur,

Oct 31, 2009, 16:04 GMT

Kiev - The death toll from a swine flu outbreak in Ukraine has risen to nearly 50, President Viktor Yushchenko announced Saturday, having put the number of dead at only 11 the day before.

Quoted by the Interfax news agency, Yushchenko said the epidemic was spreading at a furious pace, with a total of 48 deaths and around 150,000 people sick.

The president said that alone in Lviv region in the country's west, more than 60,000 people had been infected with the H1N1 virus.

All schools, kindergartens, and universities were closed for a three-week period on Friday. A ban on massed gatherings - forcing the wholesale cancellation of concerts and political rallies - was also in effect.

Ukraine's national security council also approved the equivalent of 55 million dollars in emergency funding, for swine flu control, and earlier Saturday the Ukrainian government announced new measures to control the spread of the virus.

Health Minister Vasyl Kniazevych told Channel 5 television that the flu was thought still to be limited to the country's western provinces as of Saturday morning, but because of the number of suspected cases, a spread was likely.

'The country must prepare for a wider outbreak,' Kniazevych said. 'Its direction of movement is towards central Ukraine.'

More than 80,000 people in the swine flu outbreak area had registered with authorities as displaying possible flu symptoms, but because of the similarity of swine flu symptoms to those of common flu, health workers were struggling to estimate the extent of the swine flu's spread, Kniazevych said.

Yulia Tymoshenko assured that to date, all pharmacies and hospitals are provided "with rapid tests to detect Californian influenza." "We have bought a sufficient number of medical masks, which are distributed to the regions of Ukraine. All the pharmacies and hospitals have already been provided with relevant masks, medical supplies and drugs for prophylaxis and treatment of swine flu", - she said.

In addition, the Prime Minister announced that all funds necessary for the purchase of medicines to prevent and treat flu, "which can cope with this disease" have been assigned from reserve fund. Yulia Tymoshenko stressed that she will control all pharmacies. According to her, for the period of the epidemic of influenza A (H1N1), all health institutions, regardless of their form of ownership, will be subordinated to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

She drew attention to the fact that now a minimum set of drug will be allocated for every drugstore. She stressed that the level of drug prices must be on the same level as last week. "If at least one pharmacy increases the price by 1 kopeck, then license will be withdrawn immediately" - promised the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also announced that the Cabinet of Ministers will allocate Hr 500 mn for the purchase of necessary medicines in the country. After the Cabinet meeting she was going to leave for the Ternopil Region. She explained that it is necessary to control the whole situation.

Summing up, she promised all the possible symptoms of A (H1N1) influenza A (H1N1) will be reported on all television channels, radio, in all printed publications of the country. Premier appealed to citizens to seek medical help when first symptoms of the disease appear. Epidemic of flu in the Western Ukraine can be used as a pretext for imposing a state of emergency and breakdown of the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine. This opinion was expressed by the Deputy Director of the Situations Modeling Agency Oleksiy Holobutsky.

"Today it is absolutely clear that a political group of the current President of Ukraine is not interested in early elections, whose personal rating is very low. The state of emergency will be imposed in Ukraine in order not just postpone the election date, and frustrate them, most likely, under the pretext of pandemic influenza on Ukraine "- UNIAN news agency reports referring to the comment of the expert.

Oleksiy Holobutsky also believes that initiators of breakdown of elections will be supported by doctors, who, according to the instructions in a pandemic, will impose a ban on public events, gatherings of people, and in this case no elections will be held.

Party of Regions will demand imposition of a moratorium on election rallies in connection with the swine flu epidemic in Ukraine. This statement was made by the Party of Regions leader Viktor Yanukovych in Kharkiv.

However, he stated that the medical facilities are provided with all necessary medicines and antibiotics for the treatment of patients, and patients are provided with medical care free of charge, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

Mykola Paliychuk noted that in all the reception centers of hospitals "Tamiflu" drug exists (intended for the treatment of swine influenza).

State Border Service is taking measures to prevent acute respiratory viral infections in the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in Ukraine, is stated by the press service of the State Border Service.

The author of draft decree argues the need for dismissal of Ministers because they did not ensure the necessary measures to prevent the spread of influenza virus A (H1N1). Valery Bondyk thinks actions of Vasyl Kniazevych and Volodymyr Shandra criminally negligent and incompetent, which might lead to the significant number of deaths in Ukraine, and the declaration of a state of emergency in Ukraine.

Swine Flu Claims First Five Victims In Russia

RadioFreeEurope/RadioLiberty,
October 31, 2009

KRASNOYARSK -- Russia says that five citizens are confirmed to have died from H1N1, or swine flu, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

All of the deaths have occurred in the past week. Vadim Yandin, the health minister of central Russia's Krasnoyarsk Krai, announced on October 30 that a 39-year-old woman has died of swine flu.

He added that some 450 local citizens have been hospitalized as possible swine flu patients. Three lethal cases of swine flu were reported in Russia's Baikal region earlier this week and one in Moscow. A total of some 1,300 cases of H1N1 flu have been reported in Russia.

The deaths and increased number of swine flu cases comes amid a similar rise in other parts of the former Soviet Union, including Ukraine and Central Asia.

Global swine flu toll rises to over 5,700: WHO

by Indo Asian News Service,
October 31, 2009

Geneva, Oct 31 (IANS) More than 700 people have died of swine flu this week raising the number of fatalities from the viral disease to 5,712 worldwide, Xinhua reported citing the UN health agency Friday.

Of all the deaths, 4,175 occurred in the Americas, 605 occurred in South-East Asia and 465 occurred in the West Pacific. Europe, East Mediterranean and Africa reported 281, 111 and 75 deaths respectively, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said in a latest update Friday.

The WHO, which declared the swine flu as a pandemic in June, said the total number of lab confirmed cases worldwide is now over 441,661, but this case count is significantly lower than the actual number of cases that have occurred because many countries have stopped testing and reporting individual cases.

In the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere, influenza transmission continues to intensify marking an unusually early start to winter influenza season in some countries, the UN agency said.

Pneumonic plague has claimed 1,500 lives in Ukraine
1. November 2009 | From at | Category: News, Our World

About 1500 people have died over the past week in Ukraine. As noted by some doctors, the reason - pneumonic plague. High temperatures from the first day, a burning sensation in the chest, the desire to drink cold and nausea - all of these symptoms are frightening. People die for a few days. The virus has not been treated in our country. Andrew Makrush, head physician of one from the Ternopil hospital believes that only in the Ternopil killed over 1000 people.

Data on mass fatalities already confirmed in the Ministry of Health, but the figure is lower - 500-600 citizens. Ukraine at the mercy of an unknown disease - a fact.

Re: 'Pneumonic plague has claimed 1,500 lives in Ukraine'

Is it possible that the website you quoted has simply mis-reproduced the 'around 150,000 people sick' statement (see 'Ukraine's swine flu death toll rises to nearly 50' story above)from Interfax (a reliable news agency, as far as I'm aware) as '1,500 have died'?

(Quote from that story)
"The death toll from a swine flu outbreak in Ukraine has risen to nearly 50, President Viktor Yushchenko announced Saturday, having put the number of dead at only 11 the day before.

Quoted by the Interfax news agency, Yushchenko said the epidemic was spreading at a furious pace, with a total of 48 deaths and around 150,000 people sick.

Tuberculosis kill aproximately 1,800,000 people per year. Where is the urgency for this killer? Also how many millions of people die each year from starvation? The death toll from normal flu each year is many times of that of H1N1. Yet there is no verifiable test to confirm H1N1.
